The Center for News, Technology & Innovation (CNTI) is looking for a part-time spring research intern to support the Center’s work.


The Center for News, Technology & Innovation (CNTI) is looking for a part-time spring research intern to support the Center’s work in encouraging independent, sustainable media, maintaining an open internet and fostering informed public policy conversations. We are particularly interested in individuals who have background experience with journalism research and overall familiarity with CNTI’s priority topics. 

The intern’s work will support CNTI’s Executive Director, Senior Research Manager and other staff members with priority issues and background work, including assisting with issue primers and a variety of tasks related to ongoing research projects.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated knowledge of CNTI’s priority topics
  • Strong social science research and writing skills
  • Ability to conduct and contribute to literature reviews in the social sciences
  • Comfort using Google Drive and Google Suite
  • Familiarity with database and reference management tools (e.g., Excel, Google Sheets, Zotero) 
  • An understanding of data analysis and visualization (e.g., Datawrapper, R, Stata)
  • Comfort working independently as well as part of a team of researchers with different skill sets

The position is most suitable for college seniors or students enrolled in graduate programs, though we will consider applications from all qualified candidates who meet the criteria outlined above. Prospective interns must be eligible to work in the U.S.

Schedule & Compensation

The internship will be remote and will involve frequent video check-ins. The position is time limited (spring semester 2026, approximately early February through mid-May 2026) and will require 10-15 hours per week. The time spent will be on an ad-hoc basis based on both the needs of CNTI and the intern’s availability. 

The intern is responsible for keeping track of hours worked per week and submitting them to CNTI. Compensation will be consistent with the agreed upon rate of $22/hr to be paid monthly in arrears, after hours are submitted by the intern.
