Support Our Work
Help advance CNTI’s work to build knowledge, discussion and innovative action

Letter from our founding executive director
The ways we create, learn about and respond to the world around us are going through one of the most consequential transitions in its history — all amid a pace of change that is exceedingly hard to keep up with. Fully understanding the dynamics at play is essential to capitalizing on potential benefits in ways that safeguard an independent news media and the public’s access to an open internet.
At CNTI, a 501(3)(c), we spend our days investigating these forces — not from one country’s vantage point, but from a global one, and not from one industry but the full mix of important players. Around the world, news providers, technology companies and policy analysts are experimenting with different answers to the same hard questions. We believe those answers matter to each other, and that much of the conversation has been narrower and less informed than it should be.
Our job is to bring evidence and innovative ideas into that conversation. We pursue the challenging questions that matter, build a rigorous base of research and translate complex issues into something people can actually understand and act on — whether they’re a policymaker, a platform executive, a journalist, an investor or simply someone who cares about having reliable information in their life.
None of this happens without support from people who believe, as we do, that a stronger information environment is worth investing in.
Your tax-deductible contribution helps us not only continue but increase and expand our global work as an independent center focused on the public’s interest — not that of any single industry, government, or ideology. It helps us conduct the hard but essential research, host deliberative discussions and build innovative solutions that advance a vibrant, functioning society.
I hope you’ll consider joining us.

How Giving Strengthens CNTI’s Work
Donations sustain the full arc of CNTI’s work: identifying urgent questions, conducting independent research, bringing global perspectives together and turning what we learn into useful public resources.
From the first question to the final publication, donor funding gives CNTI the freedom to follow the evidence, connect expertise across sectors and keep its findings accessible to the public.
How does CNTI use donations?
Donations support every stage of CNTI’s work. Funding helps us identify emerging questions, conduct original and collaborative research, convene experts, and publish findings that journalists, researchers, policymakers and industry leaders can use.
It also, importantly, helps us plan ahead.
What issues does CNTI investigate?
Our work focuses on five areas shaping the future of journalism: AI in News, The Expanding Provider Landscape, Media Freedoms and Business Success. These issues often overlap, requiring research that considers the broader information environment.
How does CNTI decide which questions to pursue?
We look for questions with meaningful implications for journalism, technology, public policy and society. Our priorities are shaped by emerging developments, gaps in existing research, under-informed debates and conversations with people working directly across these fields.
How does CNTI build a credible evidence base?
CNTI conducts original and collaborative research, examines developments across countries and sectors and draws from a range of disciplines and perspectives. This approach helps us distinguish meaningful facts and data from assumptions, anecdotes and short-term reactions.
Why is a global perspective important?
Developments in and impacts of technology and media rarely stop at national borders. A law, platform decision or industry practice in one country can quickly influence others. We can also learn a great deal from each other by sharing experiences, trends and experiments with colleagues across borders.
How are CNTI’s findings shared?
We translate research and expert dialogue into accessible public resources, including issue primers, briefings, data, event insights and other analysis. Each format helps audiences understand complex issues and explore the evidence behind them. Our live convenings, discussions and presentations further socialize, refine and build on these findings, creating an ongoing dialogue between our research and the communities it serves.
Who uses CNTI’s work?
CNTI’s work is created for journalists, newsroom leaders, researchers, technologists, policymakers, advocates, educators and anyone seeking a clearer understanding of the forces reshaping journalism and the open internet.
Who are the people that make up CNTI?
CNTI is guided by a team of researchers, communicators and subject-matter experts, alongside a global board of directors from journalism, academia and the tech industry who bring decades of experience in media sustainability, platform governance and information integrity. You can learn more about our team and board here.
CNTI is also all of you — everyone who takes part in our discussions, emails us with questions or ideas, writes guest essays for our site or enables this work through financial support. Our community is what makes independent, rigorous research into the future of news and information possible.
