Afrooz Mosallaei is a Research Associate at the Center for News, Technology & Innovation (CNTI) and holds a Ph.D. from Journalism and Media Studies at Rutgers University. Her research examines how digital platforms shape news production and distribution, with a focus on visual communication, climate journalism, social movements, and the role of social media in shaping public understanding of major societal issues.
She has been a COMPASS (Consortium on Media Policy Studies) Fellow through the University of Pennsylvania and Rutgers University’s Media, Inequality & Change Center, and spent summer 2024 working with the media advocacy organization Free Press on U.S. media policy. She is also a research affiliate with the Yale Program on Climate Change Communication.
Her research has been published in top-tier journals including Digital Journalism, Journalism & Mass Communication Quarterly, Social Media + Society, and Environmental Communication, and has received recognition from the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC) and National Communication Association (NCA).
